Cheap Hockey Skates Aren't Worth It

It's worth it to invest in a good pair of skates.  A frequent mistake is buying the cheapest skates one can find because they aren’t sure if they are going to like skating or hockey.

Cheap skates can lead to injury. You may not play as well, and then not enjoy the game! A vicious cycle.

So if you’re in the market for skates, the brand matters but you need to pay attention to the fit of skates.  So consider buying skates from a sports shop or an specialized online website.

• Buy well-known brands such as Bauer, CCM, Koho, Mission or Easton.  
• Pay attention to ankle support. This is especially important to beginners who tend to have weaker ankles. 
• Try the Skates on with the socks you'll be wearing.  Don't be surprised if it isn't your regular shoe size.
• Search and buy hockey skates online.  Try on in store, but shop online when you know what you like.  But if you want the store to heat/fit your skates, buying in-store may be the way to go.  You'll also save money if you buy a model/style from past years.

Always buy good quality hockey skates.  It's worth it for your fun and enjoyment.
